The ABC’s of becoming a follower of Jesus
"Here's what it takes."
ADMIT . . . your sin separates you from God. If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth. - 1John 1:8
BELIEVE . . . Jesus gave his life for you. Christ also suffered when he died for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners that he might bring us safely home to God. - 1Peter 3:18
CONSIDER . . . the cost of following Jesus. Then Jesus said to the disciples, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must put aside your selfish ambition, shoulder your cross, and follow me. If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for me, you will find true life. Matthew 16:24-25
DECIDE . . . to open your life to Jesus. "Look! Here I stand at the door and knock. If you hear me calling and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal as friends. Revelation 3:20
EXPERIENCE . . . your new life in Christ. What this means is that those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17
FOLLOW . . . Jesus with wholehearted devotion. Jesus replied, "‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. Matthew 22:37-38
GATHER . . . regularly with other followers. Think of ways to encourage one another to outbursts of love and good deeds. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of His coming back again is drawing near. Hebrews 10:24-25
Our mission at Marine View is to encourage people to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ lived out in the context of community. If that is your desire, we invite you to take the step of beginning a new life as a follower of Jesus by praying a prayer similar to this:
"Jesus, I know I need you in my life. I am a sinner; I am broken and lost as I try to live apart from you. "I believe you died for me and you can bring me back to God. I believe you will forgive all my sins. I believe you will give me meaning and purpose for my life. And I believe you will give me your Holy Spirit to give me the power to live for You." "I now commit my life to you. I ask you to be my Savior and Lord. And beginning today, i will live my life following you with wholehearted devotion. Amen."
