Women IN Ministry

Dear Friend,

Welcome to the Women in Ministry page.  Why Women IN Ministry?  Because we believe that women are created, called and equipped by God to actively participate and join God IN God’s ongoing ministry of redemption in the world.  To be a Woman IN Ministry is to be one who is joyfully and purposefully pursuing her inner relationship with God and then offering herself as a vessel for God’s use.  Empowered by the Holy Spirit, she becomes a conduit through which God can uniquely and creatively show the love of Christ Jesus to everyone in her circle of influence – her family, her friends, her co-workers, and her fellow sisters in Christ.

What does Women in Ministry look like at Marine View?  We are a diverse group of women from many different backgrounds.  We are single, married, divorced, widowed, retired, professionals, stay-at-home mothers – you name it!  While we represent many “ages and stages” we share the common goal of growing in our relationship with God and serving God by serving others. Whether through Bible Study, Small Groups, Retreats, Prayer Gatherings or one of our Outreach events like Bunko Night, the purpose of Women IN Ministry is to provide unique opportunities for you, as a woman, to Connect to God and Others through Jesus Christ.

I invite you to browse the variety of upcoming programs offered for women at our church and in our community.  We look forward to meeting you and we welcome you to join us for any of these events.  Please feel free to contact me if I can answer any questions.

Blessings in Christ,

Kristi Trainer
Director of Women in Ministry

Believing God, with Beth Moore

Join us as we explore what it means to know and truly believe God—as described in Isaiah 43:10. Drawing from the "Heroes of the Faith" in Hebrews 11, this study examines the lives of Abraham, Moses and others who believed God. Through their examples, Beth encourages women to deepen their own trust in God and receive a fresh word from Him.  This powerful study will lead participants to a more active, living faith—one that begins with...believing God.

Groups: The Life-Giving Power of Community

John Ortberg, Laurie Pederson, Judson Poling, Laurie Pederson, John Ortberg, Judson Poling

Community is God’s idea.  Only in community can we know and be known, love and be loved, celebrate with others and be celebrated by them.  And only through close, transparent relationships can we be transformed as individuals.  Groups invites you to enjoy the rewards – and embrace the risks – of community.  Step by step, this study will challenge and encourage you to explore the amazing potential for growth found in authentic relationships.  You’ll study the true nature of friendship.  The power of paying attention.  The path to intimacy.  The encouragement of being for one another.  You’ll learn what it means to live out these and other simple truths for being who you are, giving all you’ve got, and receiving all you need as a member of God’s dynamic community – the church.

ALL-NEW!!  SUMMER SOAK BOOK CLUB

Three months, Three meetings (Upper Fireside Room), Three Books

JUNE'S SUMMER SOAK READ: Third Thursday June 19 6:30 – 8:00pm

“The Cross Centered Life: Keeping the Gospel the Main Thing,” CJ Mahaney

June’s book is an “easy” read – short and sweet and to the point, yet rich in content, encouragement and challenge.

What Are You Centered On? Sometimes the most important truths are the easiest to forget. It’s time to get back to the starting point of the Christian life—the cross of Christ. Jesus’ work on your behalf must be the central motivation for your life and faith—the main thing.  “Never move on,” says C.J. Mahaney, who shows you how to center every day around the cross of Calvary and how to escape the pitfalls of legalism, condemnation, and feelings-driven faith. Tap into the gospel’s power and see how a cross centered focus can transform your life today!

JULY’S SUMMER SOAK READ: Third Thursday, July 17 6:30 – 8:00pm

“Real Sex: The Naked Truth about Chastity,” Lauren F. Winner

NOTE: DON’T LET THE TITLE FOOL YOU - THIS BOOK IS FOR EVERYONE, MARRIED AND SINGLE.  IF YOU ARE SINGLE, MARRIED A MOTHER OR GRANDMOTHER, THIS IS A MUST-READ . . .  Winner, author of the critically acclaimed memoir Girl Meets God, weaves an intriguing tapestry from sociological, autobiographical, pastoral and historical threads. She balances a journalistic report of how difficult chastity is for American Christians; a personal account of how she and her friends have approached premarital and marital sex; a survey of what the Bible, pastors and good Christian books say about the topic; and an overview of how chastity has been understood throughout Christian history. The candor with which Winner writes about sex may alarm some Christian readers, but those who follow her arguments to their conclusions will find themselves rewarded with fresh insights about an overdiscussed but still deeply entrenched problem among Christians. Interestingly, some of Winner's best insights are about married sex. She states early on that "in Christianity's vocabulary the only real sex is the sex that happens in marriage; the faux sex that goes on outside marriage is not really sex at all... [it] is only a distorted image of sex, as Walt Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort is only a simulation of real wilderness." Winner places real sex not in the passionate world of one-night stands and dating relationships, but in the ordinary, domestic life of married couples. As such, she helpfully and perhaps even radically reframes both the Christian and cultural discussion of chastity and sexuality.

Coming in AUGUST,  Third Thursday, August 21st 6:30 – 8:00pm

“The Shack,” William P. Young

The Shack is the most absorbing work of fiction I've read in many years. My wife and I laughed, cried and repented of our own lack of faith along the way. The Shack will leave you craving for the presence of God. Michael W. Smith, Recording Artist

When the imagination of a writer and the passion of a theologian cross-fertilize the result is a novel on the order of "The Shack." This book has the potential to do for our generation what John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress" did for his. It's that good! --Eugene Peterson, Professor Emeritus of Spiritual Theology, Regent College, Vancouver, B.C.

Finally! A guy-meets-God Novel that has literary integrity and spiritual daring. "The Shack" cuts through the clichés of both religion and bad writing to reveal something compelling and beautiful about life's integral dance with the Divine. This story reads like a prayer--like the best kind of prayer, filled with sweat and wonder and transparency and surprise. When I read it, I felt like I was fellowshipping with God. If you read one work of fiction this year, let this be it
